From the draw to the starting line: The goal shifted from 'being selected' to 'finishing'

Henrique's initial goal was simply to be selected for the UTMB, but once good fortune struck, his goal became: 'I must complete UTMB.' However, he struggled with a long-standing physical challenge—pubalgia, a persistent groin pain, and even adductor muscle stiffness. Embracing the UTMB with this condition was one of the biggest and most daunting decisions of his life.

'On race day, I stood at the starting line filled with passion, my eyes blazing with determination, determined to cross the finish line.'—Henrique Cordeiro

Two sleepless nights, minus eight degrees Celsius: UTMB's darkest moments

The UTMB course is not only long but also tests both cold tolerance and endurance. Henrique faced two sleepless nights to the limit.

On the first night, he and countless other runners encountered a snowstorm, with temperatures plummeting to -8°C, leaving him shivering and nearly collapsing. On the second night, he faced the biting cold and the immense strain of sleep deprivation.

'For someone from a tropical country, enduring such low temperatures was incredibly difficult. But I told myself I had to hold on until dawn.' - Henrique Cordeiro

Ultimately, with his tenacious will and excellent pace control, he persevered through the long night and continued to push towards the finish line.

Tears and Cheers: Surreal Moments at the Finish Line

Henrique's most moving moments were the start and finish of the race.

At the start, the iconic UTMB music brought tears to his eyes; with only 1 kilometer left, he couldn't believe he was about to complete his dream. The cheers of friends, the shouts of strangers, and the unfurled Brazilian flag in his hands all became the highlight of the race.

'The true gift isn't the finish line, but everything I've gained along the way.' - Henrique Cordeiro

Haimont Equipment: Reliable Support Every Step of the Way

Henrique specifically mentioned the crucial role his Haimont equipment played in the race:

Henrique says this gear allows him to focus on challenging himself, rather than battling discomfort.

Advice for Future Trail Runners

Henrique's advice to future UTMB runners and trail runner beginners:

Mindset is more important than physical fitness: Learn to embrace discomfort; mental strength is key to getting through the lows.

Respect the mountain and proceed patiently: The UTMB is a test of endurance and wisdom, not a blind sprint.

Enjoy the journey: The finish line is just the reward; the true value lies in the resilience and growth gained along the way.
